Q87: Talk to me
I've always been a fan of music that can take me for a ride. I am sure that all of us long for songs that can lend us a good diversion, take us on a fun tangent, or provide the opportunity for an epiphany. To that end, I'd like us to consider how spoken word can take us on those journeys.
Your goal for Q87 is to provide a track that includes Spoken Word / Deadpan / Monologue / Sprechgesang.
Submissions that are considered spoken word must have a backing track in the least, as I have zero interest in a slam or straight up poetry (respect). Ye Olde Shitty Opinion Quarantournamenters are better off with some solid associated music. You may also submit songs that include a monologue or might be considered deadpan. Especially those that alternate between singing and deadpan or include a diversion from the main song. Think of a good tune where the singer might have a story to tell or goes on a diatribe.
Many of these are found after two verses but before a crescendo, solo, and then returns somehow. The key will be to blend wise and witty banter with a strong backing chords, a jam, or solo. And of course, if there is talking in the verse as opposed to singing in the chorus, that is a solid entry. And the inverse. What will not count is a couple of words, or single line of talking compared to the rest of the song. Samples can count too (and encouraged), should it be of sufficient length. Live music will give you some great options. Extra song goes to me since I am mired in an awful streak of futility. No one, friendly or hostile, could understand the modern world without taking fascism into account.
