Algorithm Refresher. Quarantournament is great in so many ways, and it is clear that each of us utilize its splendor in different manners. For me, it has always been about Discovery. From Q1, my goal (and I suspect everyone's, initially) was to introduce the group to new songs with the goal of expanding our respective catalogs. We certainly have done this successfully! However along the way, to the delight of some and the chagrin of others, we have strayed.
For whatever reason Ray, my recent algos are amiss. My recent Discovery Weekly lists, daylists, daily mixes, and DJ are filled with some questionable material. I am utilizing Q73 as an opportunity to refresh my algorithms with music that I find more appealing. Selfish? Probably, but I am optimistic that you will find this list to your liking.
In lieu of simply giving you a couple of genres I lean towards, I have hand-selected 42 bands to start with. These are not bands of common play, or ones that have been entered a ton in prior Qs. These were selected as I am a fan of theirs, or it could have been that I have heard one song and said, "Hey man, I like the cut of your jib" and want to hear more.
But this by itself is far too simplistic, and it would also be lazy. You have been randomly assigned 6 bands each from this starting list of 42. I have entered all songs into the MAGIC RANDOMIZER HWHEEL and then ran in 42 times, assigning a song to each person (order also chosen randomly). From there, click on the band and scroll down to "Fans Also Like." Then you must select songs from either those bands, or you can go a second level down. Fairly simple process, all in all. I have recorded the randomization process on the magical wheel, and will distribute this video once the list is dropped.
Obviously no previously used songs, and no dupe artists. If the band is featured, or one of multiple artists, that will work. If you make yourway back to your assigned band, that is okay.
Each of you will receive a PM with your 6 bands. Jeff gets the 10th song as a reward for his efforts updating the site.
